LEHIGH COUNTY, Pa. – Following this weekend’s snowfall, The Lehigh County Authority (LCA) is asking residents to help protect public safety by clearing snow and ice from fire hydrants in their neighborhoods.<\/p>\n
Officials say many fire hydrants are buried in snow, making them difficult or impossible for firefighters to access during an emergency.<\/p>\n
LCA is asking customers to clear at least three feet of space around hydrants and to shovel a clear path from the hydrant to the street to ensure first responders can act quickly when seconds matter.<\/p>\n
Hydrants are typically located near the curb or sidewalk and may not always be directly in front of a home. Even if a hydrant is not on your property, officials say clearing it can help safeguard the entire neighborhood.<\/p>\n
Customers are encouraged to:<\/p>\n
Remove snow and ice from around the hydrant, maintaining about a three-foot<\/p>\n
clearance on all sides<\/p>\n
Clear a path from the hydrant to the street<\/p>\n
Avoid piling snow from driveways or sidewalks on or around hydrants<\/p>\n
