A train carrying three cars of wine derailed in Old Forge on Monday morning.<\/p>\n
Most of the 13 cars were empty, no injuries were reported to conductors and there are no hazmat concerns, said borough Fire Chief Mark Tagliaterra.<\/p>\n
Crews responded to the 900 block of Moosic Road around 10:09 a.m. on a report of a train derailment, according to the Lackawanna County Emergency Management Agency.<\/p>\n
Fire crews observed multiple railroad cars off the tracks, with three cars lying on their sides, per the county\u2019s EMA department.<\/p>\n
Tagliaterra noted most of the cars that derailed were empty, and three cars were full of wine.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe tracks are pretty well messed up from what I understand,\u201d Tagliaterra said.<\/p>\n
Old Forge Police Chief Jason Dubernas said about 13 train cars were involved in the derailment. He added there was no disruption to vehicle traffic in the area.<\/p>\n
Emergency Management Agency personnel responded to the scene and confirmed there were no hazardous materials and no environmental or public safety risk to the community, officials said.<\/p>\n
Additionally, the state Department of Environmental Protection and Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency were notified of the incident, county officials said.<\/p>\n
The crash is now under investigation by the Reading Blue Mountain & Northern Railroad, which had officials on scene Monday, Tagliaterra said.<\/p>\n
Railway officials also assumed responsibility for cleanup operations, according to county EMA officials.<\/p>\n
