SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE\/WYOU) \u2014 The cleanup continued in Lackawanna County after the weekend storm. 28\/22 News Reporter Colby Hughes explained how the Electric City dug out.<\/p>\n
People all over Scranton were out working through the day on Monday to dig themselves and their cars out of the snow. Nearly a foot of snow fell onto the Electric City on Sunday, and the work to clear sidewalks and roads has started.<\/p>\n
People brought their shovels and snow blowers to get through the snow that was almost up to their knees.<\/p>\n
\u201cPretty wild storm. I mean, it just kept coming down and coming down, and we certainly got a lot of snow,\u201d Scranton resident Bobby Whelan said.<\/p>\n
Residents trudged through the elements and untouched walkways, but some went out looking to help others.<\/p>\n
\u201cWell, luckily, my landlord gets us all shoveled out, but I figured I\u2019d loop around the block. I see, like, neighbors and friends aren\u2019t shoveled out, and a lot of people need to get in their cars and get to work, so I\u2019m out hustling, helping friends,\u201d Whelan explained.<\/p>\n
Whelan said he was glad he was not the only one helping.<\/p>\n
Make sure to clean off your cars before driving <\/a><\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s definitely needed. I saw somebody being pushed in a wheelchair down the road, I think it was Washington and Wyoming Avenue, this morning. It\u2019s like, it\u2019s nice to see neighbors helping out, so it\u2019s cool,\u201d Whelan added.<\/p>\n Some of those neighbors were the kids in the community, and they were certainly motivated to help.<\/p>\n \u201cSo, we\u2019re trying to make some money for shoveling snow,\u201d Scranton resident Ethan Penny said.<\/p>\n \u201cHave you had any luck so far?\u201d Hughes asked.<\/p>\n \u201cNo, we\u2019ve just been walking for an hour,\u201d Penny replied.<\/p>\n Penny and his friends hoped to take advantage of the massive amounts of snow still on the ground, even if it took some time.<\/p>\n
