SHOEMAKERSVILLE, Pa. – It’s freezing cold outside, but those we spoke to today still faced the weather to finish clearing sidewalks and roads.<\/p>\n
“The storm wasn’t too bad at first, like it was all light and fluffy. Then, towards the end, it became more sleet and ice and then it got heavier and heavier,” said Nicholas Christ of Topton.<\/p>\n
Heavier and harder to shovel out of the way as the cold makes the snow tough to move in communities like Topton, Centerport and Mohrsville.<\/p>\n
Some are just happy they can drive around and not spend too much time outside.<\/p>\n
“The roads aren’t too bad, surprisingly,” Christ said. “There’s some that got kinda ice-slick before they managed to plow them clean.”<\/p>\n
One woman decided to help out her post office friend and shovel a path around a flagpole and the mailbox.<\/p>\n
Beyond the hard work in the cold, we also found kids having fun and doing some snowy construction.<\/p>\n
“We’re building an igloo. We built it up yesterday, we packed it all down,” said one young man building a snow fort. “Usually, I like to toss some water on top of it, but I didn’t have time to do that last night. It was getting too dark and cold.”<\/p>\n
They’ll have plenty of snow to work with as what remains shows no signs of melting any time soon.<\/p>\n
