Celebrate author John O\u2019Hara<\/p>\n
The Local Reads Book Club and the Schuylkill County Historical Society are teaming up Wednesday to celebrate author John O\u2019Hara. The short story \u201cFatimas and Kisses\u201d will be discussed at 6:30\u202fp.m. at Society headquarters, 305 N. Centre St., Pottsville. The story is set in the 1920s, a period when O\u2019Hara was a newspaper reporter in the region<\/p>\n Local artists\u2019 exhibit begins Friday<\/p>\n The Members\u2019 Exhibition, one of the biggest Hazleton Art League events of the year, begins with a gallery opening Friday, from 5 to 8 p.m., at the Hayden Family Center for the Arts, 31 W. Broad St., Hazleton. The exhibition runs through Feb. 22. A portion of sales will benefit the Art League.<\/p>\n Dorsey brothers\u2019 story told through music<\/p>\n The Anderson Twins Sextet will perform their show \u201cThe Fabulous Dorseys\u201d on Saturday at the University of Scranton\u2019s Houlihan-McLean Center, at Mulberry Street and Jefferson Avenue. The Andersons have performed with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, at Carnegie Hall, the New Orleans Jazz Festival and other notable venues and have several television and film credits. The show traces the Dorsey brothers\u2019 story from Scranton roots to fame. The 7:30 p.m. performance is free. The first ice carving is Friday morning. The parade is that evening at 6:30. On Sunday, first responders from Clarks Summit, South Abington Twp., Newton Twp., Ransom Twp. and Dalton will compete in an ice-carving competition.
