Allentown School District students will be learning remotely for the rest of the week due to continued poor conditions throughout the city following Sunday\u2019s winter storm that delivered a foot of snow amid a stretch of freezing temperatures.<\/p>\n
In a post on its website<\/a>, the district said the decision was \u201cdue to conditions across the City of Allentown, including road and sidewalk situations that do not yet support safe and reliable school transportation.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThis decision was made with the safety of our students, families, and staff as our highest priority,\u201d the district said. \u201cOperating virtually allows additional time for improvement and for transportation routes to be fully assessed before resuming in-person instruction.\u201d<\/p>\n The district said it is working with the city to clear snow from routes to and from its schools, as well as parking areas. It said it was continuing to monitor conditions and planned to share updates about when in-person instruction will resume \u201cas soon as possible.\u201d<\/p>\n Under virtual learning days Thursday and Friday:<\/p>\n Teachers will use Zoom for instruction and will follow their regular daily schedules. Additional information and assignments will also be posted in Google Classroom. The district said it recognized the inconvenience continued virtual learning would cause for parents.<\/p>\n \u201cWe recognize that schedule changes can be disruptive, and we appreciate your patience and partnership,\u201d the district said. \u201cOur priority remains ensuring safety for all while maintaining continuity of learning.\u201d<\/p>\n The district also thanked its workers for \u201ctheir tremendous efforts in clearing ice and snow on our school campuses.\u201d<\/p>\n

\nThere will be no transportation to the LCTI\/LCCC campuses.
\nThere will be no charter school or nonpublic transportation.
\nAll year-round employees will work remotely and should report virtually according to their normal schedules, unless otherwise directed by their supervisor.<\/p>\n
