\t\t\tOBITUARY\t\t<\/p>\n
Andrew Vikara, lovingly known as Andy or Sonny to those closest to him, passed away peacefully at home on January 26, 2026, at the age of 88. A resident of Scranton area, Andy was born on September 4, 1937, in Dunmore, the beloved son of the late Andrew and Katherine Vikara.<\/p>\n
\nAbove all else, Andy was a devoted Catholic and a deeply loving husband. He shared an extraordinary 67 years of marriage with his wife, Ruthhis true sweetheart, as he referred to her with affection. Together, they built a life rooted in faith, devotion, and enduring love, proudly celebrating their anniversary just this past Friday.<\/p>\n
\nAndy was a loving and devoted father to his daughters, Kathy and her husband, Tom, and Tina and her partner, Mike. He took great pride in being a grandfather to Jonathan, Laura, and Jennifer, and his heart was especially full as a great-grandfather to Raegan and Layla. He was preceded in death by a son, Andrew. He is also survived by his brother, William, and by many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews who adored him and will carry his memory with them always.<\/p>\n
\nA proud veteran, Andy served his country in the United States Army, spending much of his service stationed in Germany \u2013 a time in his life he spoke of often and remembered with great pridebefore continuing his commitment through service in the National Guard.<\/p>\n
\nAndy found joy in life\u2019s many pleasures. He was a talented gardener and a wonderful cook, famous among family for his beloved homemade ravioli, which he prepared with love and pride. He enjoyed classic western movies and was a skilled handyman who never hesitated to lend a helping hand. Most of all, he was a loyal friend, a steady and comforting presence, and a man whose kindness and generosity touched everyone he met.<\/p>\n
\nAndy will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him, but his legacy of faith, service, devotion, and unconditional love will live on in the hearts of his family and friends forever.<\/p>\n
\nThe funeral will be Saturday at 10:30 AM from the August J. Haas Funeral Home, Inc, 202 Pittston Ave., with Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM in St. Ann\u2019s Basilica. Interment Cathedral Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Saturday morning from 9 to 10:30.<\/p>\n
