LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) -I f you and your family are still looking for something to do this Christmas season, there’s one home in the area that’s turning heads and spreading cheer.
Right in their front yard, Richard Long and his family have transformed their home into a Christmas wonderland with glowing lights, music playing around the clock, and decorations covering every inch of the lawn.
The elaborate display features big and small Santas, the Grinch, Elf on the Shelf, nutcrackers, and even a North Pole skating rink.
This is the second year the Long family has gone all out at this home, but this time they added artificial snow to complete the winter scene.
“Because every time I think of Christmas, I think of snow like I said it hardly ever snows here on Christmas I figured why not create snow,” Richard said.
The display took about 30 hours of preparation, but Richard said the joy it’s brought has been worth every minute. The family’s efforts have touched visitors in unexpected ways.
“When we came home there was a letter on my front door step and I opened it up it didn’t say who it was from and it was Christmas card and it said thank you for keep the Christmas spirit alive,” he said.
Richard said moments like that remind him why they create the display – to make people smile as they drive by and spread happiness through the neighborhood. The Christmas spirit is catching on, with more neighbors decorating their homes and turning the whole block into something special.
“Older people I want them to remember Christmas was like when we we’re kids and for the younger kids I want them to see what Christmas is suppose to be,” Richard said.
He’s already planning additions for next year, including more snow machines and a moving sleigh with Santa on the roof.
The display will remain up through January 1 at 78th Street and Iola Avenue.
