A Houston mother has been charged with murder after allegedly leaving her 9-year-old daughter in a car for several hours in July, according to Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez.
Gbemisola G. Akayinode, 36, allegedly left her daughter in an unattended vehicle on July 1 in the parking lot of an industrial complex in the 1200 block of Mayo Shell Road in Galena Park, Gonzalez said in a post on X. The child, identified as Oluwasikemi Akayinode, was taken to LBJ Hospital, where she was pronounced deceased.

Temperatures exceeded 90 degrees on the afternoon of her death, according to previous Chronicle reports.
The child died from hypothermia, according to the Harris County Institute of Forensic Science. Her death was ruled a homicide.
Akayinode was in custody at the Harris County Jail. Bond information was not available late Friday.
