The No. 4 seed Texas Tech Red Raiders take on the No. 5 Oregon Ducks in the Capital One Orange Bowl. It will be their first College Football Playoff matchup after securing a first-round bye.
While striving for its first national championship, Texas Tech must also navigate the transfer portal. It officially opens on Jan. 2, with players announcing plans to enter earlier than that.

The Red Raiders were active in the transfer portal last offseason, bringing in 21 players. Signs are pointing to another busy offseason, with Texas Tech already linked to a high-profile wide receiver leaving an SEC team.

As reported by On3’s Pete Nakos, Texas Tech is emerging as one option for former Florida Gators wide receiver Eugene Wilson III.
“Florida wide receiver Eugene Wilson III announced Wednesday afternoon that he is set to enter the transfer portal in January,” Nakos wrote. “The redshirt sophomore will have two years of eligibility remaining. One early school to watch in Wilson’s portal recruitment is Texas Tech, sources tell On3.”

Coming out of high school in 2023, he was a five-star recruit, the No. 4 wide receiver and the No. 32 player in the nation according to On3. According to On3’s Chad Simmons, the Texas A&M Aggies were his other finalist.
While the Red Raiders are an early connection, Texas A&M could once again make sense for Wilson. The Aggies are set to lose their leading receiver, KC Concepcion, to the 2026 NFL Draft.
Over the past three seasons with Florida, Wilson has racked up 107 receptions, 1,043 yards and 10 touchdowns. His best year came as a true freshman, 61 receptions, 538 yards and six touchdowns, which are all still career highs.

Texas Tech’s offense has been effective in 2025, ranking fifth in total yards per game (480.3) and second in points per game (42.5).
Adding Wilson could help the Red Raiders continue that dominance going into the 2026 season.
