Texas TechTexas TechBrendan Sorsby has yet to officially join a new school for the 2026 college football season, but the best choice for him is the Texas Tech Red Raiders.

With Texas Tech just having one of their best seasons ever, it would make sense for them to invest in Sorsby and bring him in to lead the offense next season.

NEWS: Cincinnati quarterback Brendan Sorsby has informed the school that he intends to enter the NCAA transfer portal, Sorsby told ESPN today. Sorsby is waiting on his NFL Draft grade, and he’ll explore transferring as he waits for feedback on the NFL draft. pic.twitter.com/00DyYmPrRn

Sorsby isn’t viewed as an elite NFL Draft prospect, but he’s had quite the rise during his past year at Cincinnati. He went from someone who wasn’t discussed much in the NFL Draft streets to a player who could actually be drafted if he were to declare.

Still, a return to the college ranks is the most likely path for Sorsby.

With Behren Morton playing out his final season with collegiate eligibility, the Red Raiders should be interested in Sorsby during the transfer portal.

Why is Brendan Sorsby Transferring From Cincinnati?

With Cincinnati not being an especially large program, it seems like they’re just not going to be able to keep up with a school like Texas Tech in an NIL battle.

Bearcats head coach Scott Satterfield was honest about the financial aspect of this situation.

Scott Satterfield asked if UC could afford Brendan Sorsby. Gave a long winded answer, but ended it with:

“… Probably not.” #Bearcats

With NIL shaking up the world of college football, it seems like Sorsby wants to do what’s best for himself, which is understandable.

Brendan Sorsby Will Join The Texas Tech Red Raiders

As for why Texas Tech makes a lot of sense for Sorsby, it’s simply a big upgrade from Cincinnati.

Cincinnati just went 7-5 and finished the year unranked. Put that next to Texas Tech, which finished 12-1, they’re ranked 4th in the College Football Playoff and have a chance to make a national championship run.

Not only that, but as we’ve discussed, the Red Raiders are in a position to give Sorsby what he’s worth from a financial perspective.

On Texas Tech’s side of things, the QB in waiting, Will Hammond, is recovering from an ACL, complicating the Red Raiders’ situation at the position.

As they look to continue to build on the success of this year, they’ll likely be looking for an experienced quarterback who won’t have many hiccups as they make the transition to Lubbock. Sorsby is just that.

Altogether, Texas Tech isn’t quite on the same level as Ohio State or Indiana, but considering the situation, this makes a ton of sense for both sides.

Brendan Sorsby Stats

This past season, Sorsby has had some strong stats. He threw for 2,800 yards, 27 touchdowns, and five interceptions in 12 games.

There’s certainly some room for growth, but it’s easy to see why colleges are trying to make him their starter for 2026.

As a prospect, Sorsby was a three-star quarterback according to 247 Sports.

Now, though, Sorsby is a four-star transfer prospect who’s the top-ranked quarterback in the portal right now, even ahead of a player like Dylan Raiola.
