HOUSTON (WVUE) – Houston leads LSU 21-14 at halftime of the Texas Bowl after the Cougars took their first lead of the game right before the break.
Lane Kiffin, LSU’s next head coach, is in attendance, but Frank Wilson remains the interim coach for this game.
LSU jumped to a quick 14-0 lead in the first quarter. Barion Brown returned the opening kickoff 99 yards for a touchdown. Later, on third and nine, Michael Van Buren connected with Trey Dez Green for a 23-yard touchdown.
Houston, led by former Tulane head coach Willie Fritz, responded to tie the game at 14. The 21st-ranked Cougars then scored again before halftime to take a 21-14 lead into the break.
