Dozens of firefighters were working to extinguish a blaze at an Old East Dallas apartment complex Saturday afternoon, fire officials said.
At about 2:40 p.m., Dallas Fire-Rescue crews responded to a 911 call reporting a fire at the complex located at 4502 Gaston Avenue. DFR’s Public Information Officer Jason Evans said the fire was first coming from the third-floor balcony, and it had already “spread rapidly” to the roof by the time firefighters arrived at the scene.
Initial crews worked to suppress the blaze as more firefighters and resources were requested at the location. Evans said between 45-50 firefighters worked to battle the fire before it was officially extinguished at 3:56 p.m.
It is not immediately clear how many units were impacted by the fire, but Evans said there was “significant damage” done to most of the top floor.
