This Halloween, one stretch of road in San Antonio could be among the spookiest places in the United States, according to insurance giant Allstate.

It has nothing to do with haunted houses or fake cobwebs strung across porches. Rather, a stretch of Interstate 10 near Exit 578 to Pecan Valley Drive on the East Side ranks as the 10th riskiest for drivers this Halloween, according to a new Allstate report based on driver behavior data.

Aggressive driving behavior is more common on weekends. With Halloween falling on a Friday this year, the insurance company warned that typical weekend behavior combined with holiday festivities could make roads especially dangerous.

The data comes from the company’s safe driving program, Drivewise, which tracks habits like speeding and hard braking and rewards customers who drive safely. For the report, Allstate identified the road segment with the most hard breaking and speeding in each of the 50 most populous cities in the U.S.

The riskiest time to drive that stretch of I-10 is between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays, the company said. The risk typically drops during prime trick-or-treating hours – the safest window is between 7 p.m. and 11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, according to the report.

San Antonio was the only Texas city to make the list, despite the state’s reputation for sky-high interchanges and the largest state highway system in the U.S. The most dangerous stretch on the list was in San Diego.

To stay safe behind the wheel on Halloween, Allstate recommends slowing down in residential neighborhoods where children might be trick-or-treating, watching your speed and keeping your headlights on.
