EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The National Weather Service El Paso has issued a Winter Storm Watch for Monday, Dec. 29 for the greater El Paso region.

Rain showers are expected to begin late Sunday night, switching over to snow early Monday morning, according to the NWS El Paso.

There is also a slight chance of sleet and/or freezing rain.

High temperatures in the El Paso region are expected to be in the mid- to low 40s on Monday.

The best locations for accumulating snow are the Sacramento Mountains and eastern Otero County, Otero Mesa and the Brokeoff Mountains and northern Hudspeth County.

According to NWS, the Sacramento Mountains could see from 4 to 7 inches of snow and Otero Mesa and Hudspeth County could see from 2 to 4 inches.

Wind gusts could reach up to 40 mph. Winds will be strongest through mountain passes and along western slopes, including the Huecos, Franklins and Floridas, NWS said.

El Paso, Las Cruces, Alamogordo and Tularosa are expected to see less than 1 inch of snow.

You can expect slick travel for parts of U.S. 70, U.S. 54 and U.S. 62-180.
