Northwest ISD Education Foundation awards more than $90K in teaching grants

Northwest ISD’s Education Foundation, or NEF, awarded grants to several teachers across the district.

NEF awarded 33 teaching grants totaling $90,918, according to a district news release. The funds for the grants will go toward a number of projects, including in literacy, STEM and special education, according to the district.

Some projects to be funded include titles such as:

“Algae Beads: Testing Photosynthesis and Cellular Respiration””Life Skills Reading Center: Building Literacy Through Accessible and Engaging Resources””From Pencils to Published: 3rd grade authors in action””If You Give a Student a Decodable””Literacy for All””Learning to Use an Air Fryer: A Hands-On Cooking Project”“We can’t fund projects like this ourselves, so I figured it couldn’t hurt to apply,” special education teacher Jennifer O’ Donnell, a grant recipient, said in the news release.

O’Donnell will use the awarded grant to do a gardening project with students to develop fine motor skills, according to the release.

NEF has awarded more than $1.9 million in grants to teachers to date, according to the release. Grants in previous years have gone toward projects such as a solar eclipse party and learning about coding or storytelling.
