A man arguing with his family shot his son in the face and killed his wife before turning the gun on himself, Grand Prairie Police say.

Grand Prairie Police confirmed Monday they were called to a family violence call at a residence on the 1600 block of Avenue B, just west of Mountain Creek Lake, at about 10 p.m. Sunday.

Investigators said a 62-year-old man was arguing with his wife when their adult son tried to intervene. Police said the father shot the son and later killed the woman inside a bedroom.

The man’s son survived the shooting and ran to a neighbor’s home and called 911.

Grand Prairie Police said when officers arrived, they were unable to reach the armed man believed to be inside the home. Police said that because they believed the man’s wife was inside the house, tactical officers forced the door open and were immediately met with gunfire. Police said the officers returned fire as the man ran deeper into the home.

Officers eventually again entered the home and found the woman in a bedroom, dead from apparent gunshot wounds. Her husband was found in a bathroom, dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Authorities said the son is expected to survive.

Police said an officer was hospitalized for minor injuries after being hit by ricochet gunfire. No other officers were injured. What appeared to be bullet holes were seen in a vehicle parked in the driveway.

The identities of the man and woman will be released after their families have been notified of their deaths.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing and more information is expected to be released.

Per departmental policy, the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office Officer‐Involved Shooting Team was called to the scene and is conducting an independent investigation. The Grand Prairie Police Department’s Office of Professional Standards will be conducting a concurrent administrative investigation.
