North Texas set a high temperature record Sunday but a strong cold front that arrived later in the day has brought seasonably cold weather back before the new year arrives.

North Texas is under a wind advisory until 3 p.m. Monday, according to the National Weather Service’s Fort Worth office. Winds from the north between 20 to 30 mph and gusts up to 40 to 50 mph are expected.

The colder air arrived after the high temperature at DFW International Airport on Sunday topped out at 85 degrees, shattering the record of 83 that was set in 2016, forecasters said.

Many areas were expected to see below-freezing temperatures into Monday with temperatures in North Texas ranging in the low to mid-30s, forecasters said.

Cooler temperatures are expected to continue through New Year’s Day, with lows in the upper 20s and mid-30s and highs topping out at 70 degrees on Friday.
