The desert shapes who we are in the Borderland. Its colors, textures, skies, and quiet resilience are part of our daily lives, and now local photographers have an opportunity to put that beauty on museum walls.

The El Paso Museum of Archaeology is officially calling on photographers from our region to submit work for a new exhibit titled Colors of the Desert / Colores del Desierto, a celebration of the Chihuahuan Desert and the unexpected beauty that surrounds us.

About the Exhibit: Colors of the Desert / Colores del Desierto

This upcoming exhibition is focused on capturing the soul of the Chihuahuan Desert, from its wide open skies and dramatic rock formations to its resilient flora and elusive wildlife.

According to the museum, they are seeking photographs that highlight the desert’s “unexpected beauty,” including native plants and animals, desert landscapes and geological features, and skies, light, and natural color unique to our region.

This exhibit is meant to honor the environment that defines El Paso and the Borderland through the eyes of the artists who live here.

Submission Guidelines: What Photographers Need to Know

Photographers are invited to submit up to three photographs for consideration. The museum is emphasizing authenticity and craftsmanship, with a few important guidelines to keep in mind.

All submissions must be original works. No AI assisted enhancements are allowed, and excessive digital manipulation is discouraged. The goal is to showcase the desert as it truly exists, raw, vibrant, and deeply alive.

Key Dates to Remember

Artists interested in submitting should keep the following timeline in mind.

The submission deadline is January 17. Photographers will be notified if their work is selected on January 28. The exhibition will open on February 14 and will run through September.

How to Submit and Learn More

Full submission guidelines and additional details are available directly through the museum. Artists can visit EPMarch.org to review requirements and submit their work.

The El Paso Museum of Archaeology is located at 4301 Transmountain Road in Northeast El Paso, making it one of the city’s most unique cultural spaces overlooking the very desert this exhibit honors.

Why This Matters

Opportunities like this matter. They create space for local artists to be seen, celebrated, and taken seriously within major cultural institutions. If you have ever captured a desert sunset, a quiet trail, a blooming cactus, or a sky that stopped you in your tracks, this exhibit is calling your name.

The desert has always been speaking. Now, the museum wants to show the world how the Borderland listens.
