LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Another cold night on the way to the South Plains, then warming begins tomorrow afternoon. Winds return to the southwest and partly cloudy skies will aid a warming trend on New Year’s Eve that will extend into New Year’s Day.

I expect daytime temperatures on Wednesday to climb to the mid to upper 60s, followed by 70s on New Year’s Day. Skies will remain partly cloudy tomorrow through Saturday.

Winds will increase slightly on Wednesday from the southwest at 15-20 mph and become strong on Thursday afternoon. Winds will increase to 20-30 mph on New Year’s Day afternoon and lead to elevated fire danger over the region.
Temperatures will dip slightly on Friday, returning to the 60s.
