ODESSA, Texas (KOSA) – UT Permian Basin hired Chris Softley as the third head football coach in program history, the university announced on Wednesday.
Softley comes to Odessa from Lubbock Christian School, where he spent the last nine years (2016-2025) as the school’s head football coach.
In nine years, he led the Eagles to four state final appearances and two state championships in 2022 and 2025.
As the LCS Athletic Director, he oversaw 10 state championships across six team sports.
Softley spent three seasons with Abilene Christian University as a Defensive Graduate Assistant Coach from 2008-2010.
The new UTPB head football coach will be introduced at a press conference at the university’s Kirk Auditorium on January 5.
