LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Heading into a brand-new year and it will be spring-like temperatures bringing in 2026.
Thursday will start colder, in the 30s, but will climb into the low to mid 70s across the South Plains Thursday afternoon. It will be mostly sunny, and the wind will increase to 15-25 mph in the afternoon from the west to southwest.

Combine the dry gusty winds with sunshine and the result will be warm temperatures for both Thursday and Friday. I expect the daytime highs on both days to range from 70-75 degrees in Lubbock.
Friday will be windier with gusts of 20-30 mph and possibly stronger speeds in the afternoon. Combining the winds with the sun and heat will increase fire danger on Friday, especially in the western South Plains and eastern New Mexico.

As for Saturday, it is slightly cooler with highs in Lubbock near 70 degrees.
Have a Happy New Year.
