EL PASO, TEXAS (KFOX14/CBS4) — A 19-year-old El Paso man was arrested over the weekend after a road rage incident led to a shooting, according to the El Paso Police Department.

The El Paso Police arrested Jair Armando Rodriguez on Dec. 28 and charged him with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

According to police, the El Paso Police Department’s Gang Unit assisted in a road rage-related shooting investigation on Dec. 28.

Officers determined that the incident involved a confrontation between motorists that escalated while the vehicles were in motion.

According to police, preliminary information indicates that the victim was traveling near the area of 3700 Hueco Valley when Rodriguez engaged in aggressive driving behavior.

The situation escalated, resulting in a collision and Rodriguez shooting at the victim.

The victim was then able to flee, and no serious injuries were reported.

Police said Rodriguez had fled the scene and was later involved in a separate traffic collision, where Rodriguez’s vehicle was found abandoned.

Through coordinated efforts, officers identified Rodriguez, who was located and taken into custody without incident.

An arrest warrant was obtained for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and Rodriguez was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility on a $20,000 bond.

Police said the case remains active, and there are no further details available at this time.
