A 62-year-old was identified as the man who died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound after fatally shooting his wife and injuring their son in Grand Prairie.
Somsac Thidavanh died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound around 1:52 a.m. Monday, according to the Dallas County medical examiner’s office.
Police said they first arrived in the neighborhood around 10 p.m. Sunday after a man reported that his father, Thidavanh, shot him in the face after he intervened in a fight between his parents. The son fled to a neighbor’s home and called 911, police said.
Officers were unable to get in contact with Thidavanh once they were on scene.

Police said officers, knowing a woman was still inside the home, forced open the front door.
The officers were met with gunfire from a rifle and returned fire, police said. Thidavanh fled further into the home and was later found in a bathroom with a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to police.
