The Corpus Christi Athletic Club says the start of January is its busiest time of the year, as new and returning members sign up for memberships, group classes and personal training sessions.

The trend is not limited to one facility. Across the Coastal Bend, gyms are reporting an increase in foot traffic as people dust off workout gear and commit to new routines for 2026.

Fitness experts say starting small can help people stay consistent.

Setting modest goals and blocking out specific workout times are two of the most effective ways to keep a resolution on track, staff at the Corpus Christi Athletic Club said.

Matthew Westmoreland, general manager of the Corpus Christi Athletic Club, said the goal goes beyond physical fitness.

“Well, it comes down to every single person,” Westmoreland said. “We just want to improve their lives, whether it’s coming here and working out, their friendships that they build, whether they’re playing any of our racket sports — anything at all — we care about their overall health and wellness.”

The CC Athletic Club currently has 20 personal trainers and offers more than 100 group classes for members looking for guidance, structure or added motivation.

With gyms seeing some of their busiest days of the year, staff said the key to long-term success is consistency — turning short-term resolutions into lasting habits.
