18 year old dead after accident while shooting fireworks on New Year’s Day

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – An 18 year old is dead after an accident while handling fireworks.

Lubbock police said a caller reported that someone was injured while shooting fireworks in the area of N. Ulrich Ave. and Dartmouth St. around 7:21 p.m. on New Year’s Day.

According to LPD, an 18-year-old male was seriously injured when a firework he was holding exploded near his head.

Officer immediately began life-saving measures until paramedics arrived. However, he was later pronounced dead at the scene.

LPD said after its initial investigation that he was shooting fireworks in the street with his friends and family.
