Five of the six victims who tragically died in a medical plane crash off Galveston Bay last week were honored today in Texas City before their remains are flown back to Mexico.
The crash happened during heavy fog as the medical plane was transporting a child from Mexico to Galveston for burn treatment. Multiple agencies responded to the scene, and bystanders bravely jumped into the water to assist survivors.
This morning, a prayer session took place at a funeral home in Texas City. Five hearses carried the victims’ remains in a procession, escorted by law enforcement, to Scholes International Airport in Galveston.
A pastor leading the gathering described the transfer of remains as a somber but vital step in the healing process for everyone affected.
At the airport, naval officers will transfer the remains to a Mexican naval aircraft for their final journey home. Two people survived the crash and continue to receive treatment for their injuries.
