AVON, Ala. (WTVY) -A very young child died Sunday morning after flames engulfed a home about three miles east of Dothan in the Cowarts/Avon area, Houston County Coroner Robert Byrd confirmed.
Emergency crews responded after 911 calls reporting the blaze where several other children were in the home but they escaped unharmed.
Byrd identified the victim as 4-year-old Nova Wynn,
Houston County deputies and state agents are working to determine the cause of the fire. Authorities said the investigation is ongoing and did not provide an estimated timeline for its completion.
