Texas football made a big splash Sunday with its first transfer portal signing: Arkansas defensive tackle Ian Geffrard.

A redshirt sophomore with two remaining years of eligibility, the 6-foot-6, 387-pound Geffrard will give Texas a massive inside presence. The Longhorns need another big body in the defensive interior since Cole Brevard and Travis Shaw — two key members of the defensive line rotation this season — are out of eligibility.

Geffrard, a former three-star recruit out of Georgia, spent the past three years with the Razorbacks. After redshirting as a freshman, he’s appeared in all 24 games for Arkansas over the past two seasons and started all 12 games in 2025, when he racked up 25 total tackles and four tackles for a loss. He had one tackle in the 52-27 loss to Texas in November.

Hero Kanu, who led the Longhorns’ interior linemen with 30 tackles, has already announced his intention to return for the 2026 season. Maraad Watson and Alex January also return, and both played significant snaps this past season. Freshmen Justus Terry, Josaiah Sharma and Myron Charles also will battle for playing time in the offseason.

Geffrard looks like an automatic fit into the rotation, especially on running downs. He’ll likely have an opportunity to start alongside Kanu unless January, a sophomore, continues to develop and earns a starting spot.
