EL PASO, Tx., January 5, 2026: The March 3, 2026, Texas primary is less than two months away. In El Paso, the primary is where most of the year’s elections are settled because the Democratic candidates are likely to win in November. However, another Republican surge like the one in 2024 should not be ignored. Nonetheless, the local Republicans must still contend with Republican voter apathy in November. This is everything you need to know about the upcoming elections.

Last Thursday was the first day to apply for a ballot by mail. The last day to register to vote is February 2, less than 30 days from now. A mail by ballot application must be received by February 20. The application postmark date is not the deadline, the form must be received by the Elections Department on February 20.

Early voting begins on February 17 and runs through February 27.

Ballot by mail ballots must arrive by 7:00pm on March 3, if not postmarked, or by the following day with a mail postmark applied before 7:00pm the previous day.

The primary election is scheduled for March 3.

You can view a complete list of candidates running in the primary by visiting our El Paso Elections Resource page that lists all the announced candidates running for office.

El Paso Herald Post will profile candidates in a contested race before the March 3 elections. We will also be sponsoring snapshot polls showing how candidates stack up against their opponents. Snapshot polls are quick polls designed to gauge what voters are thinking at the time of the poll. They are designed to provide immediate insights at the time the poll is taken providing candidates an idea of where they stand against their opponents. Each snapshot poll represents that point of time and subsequent snapshot polls can be used to track how voters’ feelings about a candidate evolve as Election Day gets closer.

Drop us a line at editor[@]elpasoheraldpost.com if you are interested in us polling a specific candidate. To keep our editorial independence, we will not accept requests for polls from candidates running for office. We will only accept requests from members of the community. Be sure to include “snapshot” polling in the subject line. We will select the snapshot poll requests based on the number of requests we get for the candidate.
