Warm, breezy start to the week; rain late Wednesday

  • January 5, 2026

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Mostly sunny skies with breezy to windy westerly winds will push highs into the 70s Monday. Some areas may reach the mid-70s to mid-80s.

Fire weather conditions are elevated today because of the combination of warm temperatures, low humidity and gusty winds. Use caution with outdoor burning and follow local restrictions, as no burn conditions may be in place. Gusty afternoon winds may cause blowing dust and minor travel impacts.

Winds will be strongest through the afternoon, generally 20 to 25 mph, then easing to around 10 mph by midnight. Overnight lows will be mild for early January, mostly in the upper 30s to mid 40s.

There is a chance of rain from Wednesday evening into Thursday as low pressure and moisture move through. Cooler, drier air settles in late week, bringing much cooler conditions to close out the week.
