Plano’s Legacy District is set to welcome a major corporate addition as AT&T moves forward with plans to relocate its global headquarters to a newly developed campus in the city. The project signals a significant consolidation for one of North Texas’ largest employers and reinforces Plano’s standing as a regional hub for major corporate headquarters.
AT&T announced plans on Jan. 5 to establish its global headquarters at 5400 Legacy Drive, a 54-acre site at the intersection of Parkwood Boulevard and Legacy Drive. CEO John Stankey shared the news with employees, outlining the company’s intent to bring its Dallas–Fort Worth administrative operations together in a single location.
AT&T told Local Profile that once complete, the Legacy Drive campus will become the company’s primary headquarters, bringing together teams that are now spread across several locations in Dallas, Plano and Irving.
“The nature of the company and our work have both evolved significantly since we moved our headquarters to Dallas in 2008, but what hasn’t changed is our belief and confidence in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex as the right place to operate a thriving multinational corporation,” said Stankey in an official statement. “We are targeting partial occupancy in the new space as early as the second half of 2028.”
The Future Of Plano
The site carries deep corporate roots in Plano. Originally developed in 1985 as the headquarters for Ross Perot’s Electronic Data Systems, the property has long been associated with large-scale innovation and business leadership.
In recent years, the city of Plano had been working to reposition the property as the Texas Research Quarter, a planned life sciences and innovation district. AT&T’s decision reshapes that vision, returning the campus to its role as a major corporate headquarters while keeping the land’s innovation-focused legacy intact. How AT&T’s move may alter plans for the campus has yet to be determined.

AT&T is already the largest Fortune 500 company headquartered in Dallas and ranks as the second-largest in North Texas at No. 37 on the Fortune 500 list, trailing only Irving-based McKesson at No. 9. The headquarters move further cements the company’s long-term presence in the city and underscores Plano’s appeal to large, globally recognized employers.
Part Of A Broader Legacy District Transformation
Local Profile previously reported in August 2025 that AT&T executives had been touring suburban office campuses, including The Park at Legacy in Plano. That 1.8 million-square-foot development, located at the former JCPenney global headquarters site at 6501 Legacy Drive, is undergoing a major transformation into a $1 billion-plus mixed-use destination.
The 107-acre Park at Legacy redevelopment is expected to include 750 multifamily units, office towers, a Miyako Hybrid Hotel, restaurants and more than 21 acres of green space, reflecting the area’s shift toward mixed-use, walkable environments.
With AT&T’s headquarters plans now public, Plano’s Legacy District continues to evolve, blending its corporate past with a new era of large-scale redevelopment and investment that is reshaping one of North Texas’ most prominent business corridors.
