In 1973, Golden Corral opened its first location in North Carolina, and in the subsequent decades, the chain of buffets has opened hundreds of locations across the United States, including dozens in Texas alone. However, one location in the San Antonio area said goodbye at the end of 2025, leaving some diners puzzled by the exit.
Recent posts on the San Antonio Restaurants Facebook group have been chiming in on the status of the Golden Corral located just Northwest of San Antonio in Helotes, which seemingly closed just before the new year. MySA attempted to call the Helotes location, but the phone number listed is no longer in service. However, the Helotes restaurant is listed as “permanently closed” on the location finder listed on the chain’s website. Google also lists the Golden Corral in Helotes as permanently closed.
A TikTok profile for the Helotes location posted a photo on the platform on December 30, 2025, announcing that it is consolidating with another Golden Corral at 1025 SE Military Road. MySA has reached out to Golden Corral to request a comment about the closure, and we will update this story if and when we hear back.
There are three Golden Corral locations remaining in the San Antonio area, one on SE Military Road, another off NW Loop 410 and a third on Pat Booker Road in Universal City.
