AUSTIN, Texas — Austin Police officers discovered Elias Mejia, a 51-year-old Hispanic male, unresponsive in a parked vehicle on the 700 block of West William Cannon Drive on Sunday morning. Mejia was pronounced dead shortly after officers arrived at the scene.

The investigation is in its early stages, but authorities believe Mejia was shot by an unknown suspect who remains at large, according to a press release from the Austin Police Department. Detectives are urging the public to help identify any witnesses or suspects who may have been in the area between 12 a.m. and 9:21 a.m. on December 28, 2025. They are also asking residents to review any video surveillance systems that might have captured footage of the incident.

A photograph of Elias Mejia has been released to assist with public identification efforts as the suspect remains outstanding. A reward of up to $1,000 may be available for information leading to an arrest.
