As part of National Human Trafficking Awareness Month, Houston leaders are coming together today at the Children’s Assessment Center to shine a light on human trafficking and what’s being done to stop it.
KPRC 2 will livestream the press conference beginning at 9 a.m.
Organizers say children make up more than a quarter of human trafficking victims worldwide, and Houston continues to rank among the top U.S. cities for sex trafficking cases.
The event will feature speakers from the Children’s Assessment Center, Harris County District Attorney’s Office, Houston Police Department, Texas Department of Family and Protective Services, and several anti-trafficking advocacy organizations. Leaders will discuss prevention efforts, survivor services, and how the public can help recognize and report trafficking.
The event will feature the Truckers Against Trafficking’s Freedom Drivers Project, a mobile walk-through exhibit that educates visitors on the realities of human trafficking using artifacts from real cases and stories from survivors. The exhibit highlights how the transportation industry is helping combat trafficking and outlines simple steps people can take to make a difference.
