LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) -Jim Baxa has announced his candidacy for Lubbock County Clerk in the Republican Primary scheduled for March of this year.
Baxa currently serves as director place 2 for the Lubbock Central Appraisal District, a position he was elected to in his first term.
During his tenure, he said he forced a cut to the LCAD budget and pushed policies aimed at protecting homeowners from rising property tax appraisals.
Baxa says he played a role in efforts to ban abortion in the city of Lubbock and abortion trafficking in the county. He organized and ran the petition drive to put the issue on the ballot for voters to decide.
He has led multiple conservative groups in Lubbock before announcing his candidacy for county office
Baxa said he plans to focus on cutting spending and serving as a fiscal watchdog for the county. He said the County Clerk’s office needs modernization to improve public access to government information.
