A driver was found dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound after allegedly assaulting a police officer in Addison before leading officers on a chase that ended in Plano Monday night, authorities said Tuesday.
Addison police were initially involved in a pursuit that began around 8:30 p.m. following the alleged aggravated assault of an officer during a traffic stop near Airport Parkway and the Dallas North Tollway, according to a police statement.
After the suspect fled Addison, the Texas Department of Public Safety continued the pursuit, which ended near Parker Road in Plano after a DPS trooper disabled the vehicle, according to a DPS statement.
According to an email alert from the North Texas Tollway Authority, officials closed all northbound lanes of the tollway near Parker Road after the incident.

Officials approached the vehicle and saw the driver had what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. There were no other injuries reported from the incident.
The driver was transported to the Plano Presbyterian Hospital and was pronounced dead by medical staff. The driver’s identity was not immediately released.
