EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — El Paso City Council issued a proclamation on Tuesday, Jan. 6, establishing Nov. 14 as Estine Davis Day in honor of the El Paso icon.

El Paso icon Estine Davis dies at 92

Son of Estine Davis and chairman of the East Side Central Coalition Board says the proclamation is special, as Estine Davis was well-known in El Paso, and she provided leadership as well as wisdom to different parts of the community, especially South Central El Paso.

Her son says that Estine Davis’ notable barbershop stayed in the same place for over 60 plus years and was also a community activist representing women’s rights, and a representative for the El Paso black community.

“I am blessed. I was blessed to be her son. To be a spokesperson for her but to continue on that legacy is more important, but we’re not afraid of the task. We’re going to continue working with everyone in the community,” Davis said.
