SAN ANTONIO – A tragic shooting spree in Henderson County left three people dead and two others injured in the early hours of the morning.
The Henderson County Sheriff’s Office reported that the incident occurred at 2:30 a.m. in a mobile and trailer home community. Five people were shot, resulting in the deaths of a man and two women.
The suspect, identified as 29-year-old Christopher Kyle Reid, fled the scene and was involved in a crash at a Buc-ee’s in Ennis, approximately 40 miles away, three hours later. During the crash, a woman inside the store was injured but is expected to survive. Authorities say Reid then turned the gun on himself and was transported to a hospital in critical condition.
Residents of Mabank, where the shooting took place, expressed concerns about the area’s safety. Neighbor Stephen Files shared his decision to move, stating, “Well, it does, it was already cemented a couple of months ago because it’s unsafe here and so noisy here many nights.”
Cheryl Noble, whose front door was stained with blood from the incident, described the experience as “very unnerving.” She added, “That’s why I stay in the house.”
Officials in both Henderson and Ellis counties are working to identify the victims and determine a motive for the shooting.
