HOUSTON – The University of Houston Soccer team opened its three-game homestand with a 1-1 draw against UCF on Sunday afternoon at the Carl Lewis International Complex.
UCF (9-2-4, 3-1-4 Big 12) scored in the 14th minute as Liz Worden and Reajanah Reed teamed up to find Honoka Hamano for the tap-in.
After a handful of good looks for the Cougars ( 7-3-5, 2-3-3 Big 12), junior Adelhia Ghonda passed the ball to freshman Samira Minor, whose towering shot bounced over the keeper and into the upper right hand corner for the equalizer in the 52nd minute.
Both teams had chances down the stretch, but tenacious defense from junior Jocelyn Chinea kept the Knights off the scoreboard.
NOTES
Freshman Samira Minor scored her team-leading sixth goal of the season.
Graduate Alex Whitcraft registered her 66th career start to move her into sole possession of fifth place in program career starts. Whitcraft has started every game of her career.
