Girls’ Basketball

Kaneland cruised to a 53-22 win over Plano on Tuesday. Dani Ridolfi led the Knights with 13 points, while Kyra Lilly added 12 in the victory. For Plano, Chloe Rowe paced the Reapers with eight points, six rebounds and four steals in the loss.

Indian Creek fell 69-46 to Mendota. Bethany Odle led the Timberwolves with 13 points, while Gretta Oziah scored 10.

Oswego edged Plainfield South 45-44, with Kendall Grant sealing the win at the free-throw line for the Panthers.

Yorkville earned a 56-21 victory over Plainfield East. Macie Jones led the Foxes with 18 points, followed by Sydney McCabe with 11 and Adi Phillips with 10. Aubrey Spychalski scored seven points and added four assists, while Claire Donnelson grabbed seven rebounds and Sloane Connel pulled down six.

Oswego East picked up a 77-66 win over Joliet Central. Desiree Merritt led the Wolves with 26 points, while Aubrey Lamberti added 20.

Over the holiday break, the Sandwich varsity girls basketball team finished third at St. Bede Academy’s Christmas Classic in Peru. The Indians recorded wins over Serena and Putnam County and suffered losses to Illinois Valley Central and the host school. It marked Sandwich’s first wins at the tournament in four years. Senior Bailey Frieders was named to the all-tournament team, while sophomore Bailey Brummel earned honorable mention.

Boys’ Basketball

Leland dropped an 85-66 decision to Streator/Woodland. Declan Brennan recorded a double-double with 29 points and 20 rebounds to lead the Panthers. Hayden Spoonmore added 16 points, while Gunnar Swenson chipped in 14.

Serena edged Reed-Custer 59-58.

Marmion Academy fell 59-57 to De La Salle. Ali Tharwani led the Cadets with 19 points and six rebounds. Joey Kramer added 15 points and eight rebounds, while Ben Piekarz scored 10.

Oswego East defeated Joliet Central 64-45. Mason Lockett led the Wolves with 21 points, followed by Dshaun Bolden with 19.

Yorkville Christian lost 66-53 to Christian Fenger Academy.

Hinckley-Big Rock dropped a 73-72 decision to Genoa-Kingston. Luke Badal led the Royals with 26 points, while Jacob Orin scored 20 and Marshall Ledbetter added 13.

Yorkville earned a 64-60 win over Plainfield East. Joey Jakstys led the Foxes with 19 points, followed by Braydon Porter with 16 and Gabe Sanders with 13.

Oswego defeated Plainfield South 58-44. Ethan Vahl led the Panthers with 25 points, seven rebounds and two steals, while Cole Jansons added 10 points and four rebounds.

Indian Creek edged Wilmington 47-45. Parker Murry led the Timberwolves with 17 points. Cooper Rissman tied the game with 31 seconds remaining, and Jason Brewer scored the game-winning basket at the buzzer. Brewer finished with nine points, while Rissman had seven.

Geneva fell 53-48 to Glenbard North. Nathan Palmer led the Vikings with 16 points, while Dane Turner scored 11. Kyle Suger added 10 points before leaving the game with an injury in the fourth quarter.

Girls’ Bowling

Plano lost 2,161-1,159 to Huntley. Gracie Busboom led the Reapers with a high series of 384, including a high game of 147.

Boys’ Bowling

Plano defeated McHenry 2,895-2,489 on a night honoring the Reapers’ nine seniors. Shawn Vazquez led Plano with a high series of 553, including a high game of 205.

Boys’ Wrestling

Plano recorded wins over Peotone and Putnam County but suffered a loss to Seneca.

Football

Oswego High School head football coach Brian Cooney was selected to coach in the Navy All-American Bowl this Saturday, Jan. 10, in San Antonio, Texas. The game features the top high school juniors and seniors in the country. Cooney will coach linebackers and serve as defensive coordinator for the West team. The game will be played at the Alamodome and broadcast live on NBC, with kickoff scheduled for 12:30 p.m. Central time. The game will also stream on Peacock.

UPCOMING WSPY VARSITY BASKETBALL BROADCASTS

WSPY’s varsity basketball broadcast schedule continues Friday, Jan. 9, when Kaneland travels to Sycamore for an Interstate-8 Conference matchup. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.

On Saturday, Jan. 10, WSPY will be in Somonauk as the Bobcats host Sandwich. Two games will be broadcast, beginning with the girls contest at 5 p.m., followed by the boys game at 7:15 p.m.
