AUSTIN, Texas — Three elementary schools in the Austin Independent School District will see an increased police presence on their campuses following a social media threat seen this week, according to a letter sent to parents from district officials.
The FBI is investigating a threat against 14 schools nationwide posted by a social media user wearing a mask and carrying a firearm, according to Austin ISD. The three AISD schools mentioned in the threat are Andrews, Baranoff and Barrington elementary schools.
The post did not specify a date or time to the threat, so district officials said the increased law enforcement on the targeted campuses will remain while the FBI conducts their investigation. Officials said they are in “direct communication” with the local FBI office to give information as needed.
The threat comes as there were over 230 shootings at K-12 schools in 2025 and several other shootings at universities.
In the letter, AISD officials encouraged students not to share any online threats they come across and report them to a trusted adult. Those reports can then be reported to AISD Police at 512-414-1703.
