NORMAN — Trailing in the second half, Oklahoma Soccer (10-3-4, 3-3-3 SEC) scored four times in the final 29 minutes as the Sooners defeated Texas, 4-2, on Senior Day Sunday, Oct. 19.
Texas (3-12-1, 1-8 SEC) scored in the 42nd minute and regained the lead with a goal in the 62nd, although the Sooners replied both times to claim their second win in three tries against the Longhorns under head coach Matt Mott.
The win propelled Oklahoma to its first-ever berth in the Southeastern Conference Tournament, beginning Nov. 2 in Pensacola.
OU 4, Texas 2
Both defenses held tough until Texas broke through late in the first half. Amalia Villarreal wove towards goal and hooked a go-ahead score inside the left post. OU only generated two shots in the first session, but turned up the intensity in the second half with seven in the next 45.
OU trailed at the break and got its first of four scores in the 62nd minute off a set piece. Caroline Duffy played a free kick into the box that was poked out towards Juliette Rayo. Rayo shot the ball on frame and Naomi Clark flicked it into the back of the net.
Just 32 seconds later the Longhorns regained the lead off a throw in towards the goal. UT’s Molly MacMillan gathered the ball in a busy box and scored.
The Sooners answered back after just over seven minutes. Lexi Dendis gathered a free ball at the top of the box and slotted the game-tying goal inside the right post.
Amidst the scoring was a huge save from Caroline Duffy to keep OU’s lead at 3-2.
Continuing the scoring with the game winner was senior Alexis Washington. Clark played a ball to Luciana Setteducate and found Washington on the back post for a quick poke in.
The Sooners’ final blow came in the 86th minute. Hadley Murrell found Clark before she crossed it to Kayla Keefer who found the back of the net.
