H-E-B put out a news release, saying the egg producer, Kenz Henz, is recalling the eggs. The grocer has already pulled them off the shelves.
HOUSTON — If you bought eggs at a Houston recently, take a close look at the carton. Texas grocer H-E-B put out a news release, saying some eggs sold there may be contaminated with Salmonella and now the egg producer is recalling them.
The affected eggs were from Kenz Henz of Santa Fe, Texas. The producer is recalling its 12-count packages of Grade AA Large Pasture Raised eggs. According to H-E-B, the eggs were only sold in Houston stores and all affected eggs have been pulled off the shelves.
So how do you know if you bought them?
“The called Kenz Henz brand Grade AA Large Eggs are packaged in a 12 count carton marked with UPC code 86949400030, a Julian date of 241 (Aug 30) to 244 (Sep 2) and 246 (Sep 4) to 247 (Sep 5) with a best by date of 10/11 to 10/14 and 10/16 to 10/17 stamped on the side,” according to a news release from H-E-B.
The Julian date refers to the date the eggs were packed.
Salmonella infections pose particular dangers to young children, elderly individuals, and those with compromised immune systems. Symptoms typically include fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal cramping. Severe cases can lead to bloodstream infections causing arterial damage, heart valve inflammation, and joint complications. It can be fatal.
No illnesses have been reported connected to these eggs.
Customers who bought the affected eggs should return them to their purchase location for full refunds or call Kenz Henz at 1-409-457-5934 weekdays between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.
