USA TODAY ranked the 10 best new museums in America and No. 1 is right here in North Texas.
ARLINGTON, Texas — The National Medal of Honor Museum in Arlington has been dubbed America’s best new museum in 2026.
The museum and monument, dedicated to the sacrifices of the 3,528 people who have received the military’s highest honor, opened to the public in March of last year. It took three years to construct next to Choctaw Stadium in the Arlington Entertainment District and boasts more than 100,000 square feet of space, including 31,000 square feet dedicated to galleries that tell the history of the Medal of Honor and the stories of the American heroes who earned it.
The entrance from AT&T Way includes a “Ring of Valor” etched with each of those 3,528 names.
The gallery space, suspended several stories above ground on five pillars representing branches of the U.S. military, tells the story of each recipient — from the Civil War and the medal’s creation in 1863 to the war in Afghanistan.
Interactive exhibits include a chance to ask questions of Medal of Honor recipients and their recorded answers on video screens available at the touch of a button.
The museum was ranked the No. 1 best new museum in the U.S. by USA TODAY. Here is the excerpt from the list:Â
“Through personal artifacts and heart-stopping simulations, this shrine to valor drops you into the split-second decisions that defined extraordinary courage. Rather than glorifying war, the National Medal of Honor Museum focuses on the human capacity for sacrifice, with quiet spaces for reflection between galleries that chronicle acts of heroism from the Battle of New Market Heights (1864) to the Medal of Honor Ceremony that symbolically marked the defeat of Nazi Germany.”
