Oak Highlands Brewery will host its sixth annual chili cook-off at the end of January.

While the Lake Highlands-born operation may have moved its taproom to Richardson, neighbor Brad Mall and his team still maintain strong ties to the neighborhood. At the new taproom, Oak Highlands will host old regulars and new customers for a chili cookoff on Jan. 31.

For $25, neighbors can bring a crock pot to the Lockwood taproom and simmer their own chili, which will be evaluated by a blind panel of local judges for the grand prize. There are no requirements as to bean content or lack thereof.

Cooks are strongly encouraged to prepare enough to feed non-participating attendees, who also will crown a people’s choice award winner by popular vote.

All entry fees will go towards the winners’ pots for both awards. The event runs from 2 to 5 p.m. Registration can be found online.
