SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Missouri State women’s soccer fell 1-0 to Sam Houston on Sunday afternoon at Betty and Bobby Allison South Stadium, wrapping up a four-game homestand to close its home schedule. With the result, the Bears move to 5-8-3 (2-3-2 CUSA), while the Bearkats improve to 8-4-2 (5-1-1 CUSA).

Sam Houston struck early, taking the lead in the 11th minute when Ellie Morgan headed in a corner kick from Kaitlyn Vance. Despite the early goal, Missouri State dictated much of the match, outshooting the Bearkats 13-6 and earning a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks.

The Bears created several strong scoring opportunities, including a first-half shot off the crossbar from Elena Bartak and a series of late chances following set pieces in the second half. Goalkeeper Ella Becker made three saves in the effort, while Sam Houston’s Katie Bahn recorded one stop to preserve the shutout.

“Tough one for us when we controlled the bulk of the game,” said head coach Kirk Nelson. “The team fought the entire match and played quality soccer. We are looking forward to our last match and hopefully a place in the tournament. I want to send a huge shoutout to our seniors as this was their last home game. Go Bears!”

Missouri State now turns its focus to its final regular-season and conference matchup, traveling to Miami to face FIU on Sunday, Oct. 26, at noon (CT).
