HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Suzy Seeley, 66, is hitting a significant milestone in the running of the 2026 Chevron Houston Marathon. The race will mark her 350th marathon.

“God has blessed me with good mechanics to stay at it for this many years,” Seeley said.

We interviewed Seeley at Memorial Park, where she trains. The Houston mom of two told us she started running at the age of 35. Her first race was the Houston Marathon in 1995.

“When I finished, I couldn’t walk for a week afterwards,” Seeley shared. “I picked it back up, and I thought… Well, I can do that again next year, and once I got into that habit of running, it became a lifestyle.”

Seeley has run every Houston Marathon since, except 2021 due to the pandemic. She has also run a marathon in all 50 states and on all continents, including Antarctica. A running journey she chronicles in her book, This Is The Race.

When people find out how many marathons she has run, she gets a lot of mixed reactions. Seeley said some people don’t believe her or think she’s crazy.

The most common question she gets asked is, “How many marathons do you run a year?” Seeley answered it’s about 12 to 14 a year.

Another common question is, “What is your next goal?” Seeley’s answer: the next marathon. She runs each marathon one at a time.

Over the years, the marathons have become a family event. Today, her husband has joined in on the running, and her daughter has completed 12 marathons. Sunday will mark her son, Ryan’s, first marathon.

“When I started running, I would run before the kids woke up. So, no one even knew I was running until I went to the marathon. Now, they are my biggest support crew.”

Seeley holds two world records. A Guinness World Record for the fastest aggregate time to complete a marathon in all 50 U.S. states for a female. She also has the record for the most marathons run under 4 hours by a female, according to the World Record Academy.

“Running kicks in my endorphins, and it makes me feel happy. I know that’s cliché. It clears my mind.”
