1. U.S. Rep. Chip Roy says he has the right mix of legal experience and conservative credentials to lead AG’s office

U.S. Rep. Chip Roy, R-Austin, believes he can flat-out win a crowded GOP primary for Texas attorney general without going into a runoff. 

The four-term congressman is leading a four-way primary race to become the state’s next attorney general now that incumbent Ken Paxton is running for U.S. Senate. Roy is running against state Sens. Joan Huffman and Mayes Middleton, and former Justice Department lawyer Aaron Reitz. 

2. Texas cities on the list of those with highest property tax burdens

According to a report from SmartAsset.com, Texas in 2025 made up 20% of the top 20 cities with the highest property tax burden in the country.

3. Austin ISD closures up in the air for two elementary schools, decision this month

Officials with Austin Independent School District (AISD) are set to decide the fate of two set-to-close elementary schools by the end of the month.

4. Additional 500 miles of border barriers to be installed on Rio Grande, Noem says

Border security efforts continue to ramp up in Texas after Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem announced an additional 500 miles of floating water barriers will be installed on the Rio Grande.

5. Texas moves from ‘high’ to ‘very high’ in flu cases

According to a report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Texas has moved from the “high” category to “very high” in their weekly influenza surveillance report, which monitors outpatient respiratory illness that includes a fever plus a cough and a sore throat.

1. Protesters vent outrage over immigration enforcement shootings in Minneapolis and Portland

Another round of protests were planned for Friday in Minneapolis over the killing of a local woman by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer during the Trump administration’s latest immigration crackdown on a major city, a day after federal immigration officers shot and wounded two people in Portland, Oregon.
