Voters in Watauga will have the opportunity to decide whether they are for or against tax increases in two new propositions.
Proposition A states: “THIS IS A TAX INCREASE. The issuance of bonds in the amount of $49,000,000 for designing, demolishing, constructing, renovating, improving, expanding, upgrading and equipping public safety facilities, including a new public safety facility and animal shelter, and the levying of a tax in payment of the principal of and interest on the bonds and the cost of any credit agreements.
According to the city website, the $49 million bond would fund projects such as building a new, modern police headquarters and expanding and upgrading the animal shelter.
Proposition B states: “THIS IS A TAX INCREASE. The issuance of bonds in the amount of $32,000,000 for constructing, acquiring, purchasing, renovating, enlarging, and improving City cultural facilities, including a new library and the levying of a tax in payment of the principal of and interest on the bonds and the cost of any credit
agreements.”
The $39 million bond would be allocated for the construction of a new cultural facility (library), the expansion of public programming areas, and more.
